Jerry McDonald becomes a Principal |

Gerald L. McDonald has become a Principal with the Firm. After practicing in Michigan for nearly 10 years, Jerry joined Pickrel, Schaeffer and Ebeling in 2004. Since joining Pickrel, Schaeffer & Ebeling, much of Jerry’s work has been in land use and governmental law. In 2005, Jerry was named Law Director for the City of Vandalia, and in 2006 he was named Assistant Law Director for the City of Huber Heights. Jerry is often called upon for his expertise in municipal law and zoning matters. Jerry also practices in the private sector handling commercial transactions and representing several manufacturers, developers and business owners. He received his Juris Doctor, sum laude from Stetson College of Law in 1993, and was admitted to the Michigan State Bar in 1993, Florida State Bar in 1994, and the Ohio State Bar in 2004. |

Matthew D. Stokely has become a Shareholder with the Firm. Matt has over 25 years of experience with all types of employment matters, including: day-to-day counseling and compliance with laws, regulations and court decisions; providing strategic guidance to employers in all labor and employment law areas; and defending employers in employment litigation. Matt has extensive experience in implementing proactive defense measures for employers, including drafting employee handbooks and training supervisors on sexual harassment and compliance with federal employment laws. He has also defended employers before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Labor, and the Ohio Civil Rights Commission. He has experience in a vast array of industries from the perspective of both the employer and employee. He is an experienced negotiator and has represented numerous parties in collective bargaining negotiations. He has also represented public employer and employees in civil service matters. Matt received his Juris Doctor from Quinnipiac College of Law in Hamden, Connecticut in 1986 and was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1986, the New York Bar in 1987 and the Ohio State Bar in 1993. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Dayton Bar Association, and is a member of their Labor and Employment Law Committees. Michele L. King has become a Shareholder with the Firm. An attorney for over 20 years, she has over 10 years of experience in Workers’ Compensation and Labor Law. Michele represents private and public employers as well as self-insured and state-funded companies. Not only does Michele listen to clients and help resolve immediate matters, she also helps proactively identify issues that could arise and assists clients with developing strategies to protect themselves. Michele also works with employers to evaluate their workplace practices and procedures and sort through complicated laws, making sure employers stay up to date and compliant. Michele has worked with many clients helping to develop their employee handbooks and training manuals and coached supervisors on sexual harassment and occupational health and safety issues. She has extensive experience defending cases before the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation and the Industrial Commission of Ohio. Michele practiced in Boston for seven years, two years of which she spent as an Assistant Attorney General. She received her Juris Doctor from Suffolk University in 1991, and was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1991, and the Ohio State Bar in 1999. She is a member of the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys, the Ohio State Bar Association, and the Dayton Bar Association. Sarah B. Carter has become a principal with the firm. Sarah has been in the business department of Pickrel, Schaeffer & Ebeling since 2005. Sarah represents a broad range of clients including privately owned businesses, multi-national corporations, banks, not for profit entities, and health care institutions. Her practice is focused on corporate, business, and commercial law and involves areas such as corporate formation, mergers and acquisitions, contractual matters, real estate transactions, leases, licensing issues, succession planning, private placement securities transactions, creditors’ rights, non-compete covenants, employment agreements, and day to day corporate governance. She has also reviewed loan documents for business clients and has worked on and prepared loan documents for local banks. In the area of Health Care Law, Sarah represents physician groups advising them on employment contracts, buy-sell agreements, contractual relations, Stark regulations, and Fraud and Abuse issues. Sarah has also represented businesses and individuals in tax matters involving the IRS and Ohio Department of Taxation. Sarah graduated summa cum laude from the University of Dayton in 2002, and also received her Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton. She is involved in many organizations throughout Dayton including the Dayton Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, and the American Heart Association. Joseph P. Mattera has become a Shareholder with the Firm. Practicing for nearly 25 years, Joe concentrates his practice in the areas of Elder Law, Estate Planning, Probate Law, Special Needs Planning, Guardianships, and Long Term Care Planning. Joe has experience helping families with estate planning, working with families facing disability issues and also helping families that are faced with the need to appoint a guardian for a loved one. He works with clients of all ages and their families to develop asset protection strategies and advise them on government benefits that might pay for long term care costs, such as Medicaid and Veteran’s Administration benefits.
